Re: 6487 Format:Elements question

Hello Dale,

Would you respond to my question? I need to upgrade the firmware to pass our QC tests.

Thanks,

Tetsu

6487 Format:Elements question

Hi, I'm seeing a discrepancy between the actual 6487 behavior and the manual description on the "VSOurce" element. The manual says "Zero will be returned when the voltage source output is off." However, I got "+000.0002" for the value when I issued a "READ?" to the instrument when it was off. On the...

Re: 6220/2182A delta mode remote programming

Dan, >send the first *IDN? and then the REM turns on. This is expected. So, I have to say your second *IDN? and GTL didn't work for some reason. Are you using National Instruments library? If so, I can write a procedure to duplicate it by using NI's Measurement & Automation software and hyperterm.ex...

Re: 6220/2182A delta mode remote programming

>I am reconnecting, since I notice the "REM" annunciator When you see the REM annunciator, send a gtl. You should be able to see the annunciator turned off. If it still lights, your sending a gtl didn't work. What GPIB library are you using? You can replace the gtl by just pressing the "LOCAL" key m...

Re: 6220/2182A delta mode remote programming

Bonjour Marion, If you go to page 15-21 of the KI2182A user's manual, you will see a front panel drawing with numbers assigned to keys. My "nnn" refers to that number. So, to change from GPIB to RS232, you first send the following commands in this order directly to 2182A: (1) SYST:KEY 1 (Shift key) ...

Re: 2182A Multiple response messages in GPIB doesn't work

Dale,

That does not explain why I got the correct responses without any -410 errors at step (8). I know the chained query works. I want to get it working at step (4) without going through the extra steps.

2182A Multiple response messages in GPIB doesn't work

Hi, When I send a "*CLS;:INIT;:FETC?;:STAT:MEAS?;:VOLT:RANG?" chained query to the 2182A for the first time, it only returns the response for the FETC? query. But, if I issue the same chained query again, the 2182A responds with the full three responses separated with a semi-colon. How do I get the ...

Re: 6220/2182A delta mode remote programming

Dale,

>You can use the 2182A in auto range. It would just slow down the measurements rate.
FYI, we found that setting up the 2182A in delta mode turned auto range off. It used whatever the "current range" to measure in delta mode.

Re: 6220/2182A delta mode remote programming

Hi Alessandro,

It works with my 2182A with (C01 /A02) firmware. Most probably though, you would need to wait for some time before accessing it via GPIB after you sent the last "Enter" key command via serial, which would allow the 2182A firmware to reset the communication chips internally.

Re: 6220/2182A delta mode remote programming

Dale, We discovered that it was possible to change the 2182A's communication interface remotely from GPIB to RS232 or vice versa, by sending a series of 2182A's "SYST:KEY nnn" commands which emulate the front panel operation to change the communication mode. This allows us to use the 2182A in delta ...

Re: 6220/2182A delta mode remote programming

Hi Dale, So, what you are recommending is to always use the 6220's SYST:COMM:SER:SEND and SYST:COMM:SER:ENT? commands to communicate with the 2182A when the app is not using the delta mode? One more question. The 6220 manual suggests that the 2182A be set in the manual ranging mode in page 5-29. Is ...

6220/2182A delta mode remote programming

Hi, My application software needs to use the Delta mode with a 6220 connected to a 2182A via an RS232 and a trigger link cable. When not using the Delta mode, the app needs to communicate with the 2182A via GPIB. Is it possible? By reading the relevant manuals, I got the impression that the 2182A's ...

Can the "Idle" and "Meas" bits be set at the same time?

We are seeing the "Idle" bit (B10) and "Meas" bit (B4) are set to 1 in STAT:OPER? queries at the same time. As I understand it, these two bits should be mutually exclusive. The problem is that sometimes the FETC? query right after seeing those two bits are set gives us "+9.9E37" response at 100V ran...

6514 range changing and input

I'm using the 6514 as a current meter. It and the 6220 current source together with the dut make a measurement circuit. When we used 645 as the current meter, the 6220 went into compliance whenever the current meter switched the range registers internally for auto-ranging because the 645 left the in...

Re: 6220 current source output impedance when Off

Hi Vince,

Thanks for your reply. I wanted to make sure that the 6220's output does NOT have a relay. One of our customer is worrying about relay failure because our software very frequently turns on/off the output (:OUTPUT:ON and OFF).

Thanks,

6220 current source output impedance when Off

Hi,

I have a question regarding the 6220's current source output impedance when it is off (SOURCE:CLEAR). Is it low-impedance? What about when the Interlock is tripped? Is it high-impedance by turning off a possible output relay or something?

Thanks,

Re: 6487 voltage source output

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the quick reply. Too bad I can't control the relay for high-impedance, though.

Thanks anyways,

Take care.

6487 voltage source output

Hi, I have some questions on the 6487 voltage source output. (Q1) When the voltage source is turned off by a ":Source:Voltage:State Off", the manual says "the source will be a low-impedance 0V source (limited to approximately 1mA) and will discharge small capacitances (DUT, cables, etc.)." If I turn...
