Re: measuring I-V characteristics (Keithley 6517B)

oussalah: this connection scheme is strongly discouraged. It could damage the instrument if the VDC is commanded higher than 500V. Also, in other of your posts on this forum you seem intent on using a BNC cable rather than triax. With this proposed connection scheme, the VDC value would be present o...

Re: CV Measurement problems with some custom :CVU:SPEED settings

What is the device? Some can be sensitive to the sweep rate. Is it light tight?

If you used KITE or Clarius interactive and an ITM, does it show similar effect based on normal, slow or fast speed?

Re: 6517B: COMMON / INPUT low connector

For current measure function, the center pin and the inner shield of the triax connector are used. Then you could attach your BNC to alligator clip cable. 6517b_pic1.PNG Keep in mind this will affect the measure performance. Here I used KickStart software and took 100 readings from a model 6487. I u...

Re: Voltage Measurement Shorting Through Scope Using Single-Ended Probe

Hi Steve, Sounds like your ground reference in your power supply circuit is not the same as the chassis ground of the AC power ckt that the scope is plugged into. Floating the scope as you describe is dangerous to you as well as to the scope. Battery powered scopes are sometimes used (200MHz in the ...

Re: Replacing SCPI commands with IVI driver functions

Here is some Python code for using the IVI Scope class driver with the TekSeriesScope IVI driver. import matplotlib.pyplot as plt from comtypes.client import CreateObject, GetModule GetModule('C:\Program Files (x86)\IVI Foundation\IVI\Bin\IviScope.dll') from comtypes.gen import IviScopeLib ivi_scope...

Re: Replacing SCPI commands with IVI driver functions

If the Tek scope you have in mind has an IVI driver, then yes, it can also be controlled from the IVI scope class driver. I do not believe the IVI scope class has the concept of fastframe defined, therefore that driver API will not have means. Verify this in the IVI scope specification document on t...

Re: 6517B: COMMON / INPUT low connector

Which triax to bnc adaptor to use would depend on which measure function. For guarded volts you need to use triax otherwise you create a shock hazard if you adapt so that inner shield is now on the outer shell/touchable part of a BNC cable. Also, the triboelectric noise from your bnc cable is likely...

Re: Weird operation overlap error

We exchanged the list of commands. A timer object is used to pace the source stimulus and a second timer was used as a measure delay timer for measure stimulus. For these timer based fast sweeps, fixed source and measure ranges are advised. Also use of autozero should be set to ONCE or OFF, rather t...

Re: Keithley 2604B - transistor testing

Your basic connections sound fine. When you say turned off, wondering if you mean the power mains switch or the blue lights for the SMUs? For the powering on/off of the instrument, is best to disconnect from any device. For powered up, but blue lights off, the normal output off state is to force 0V ...

Re: measuring I-V characteristics (Keithley 6517B)

oussalah: in this post, the application wants to wire the DC voltage source in series with the Amps measure function to apply voltage to a DUT and measure the current. Most applications will run two cables from the back of the 6517B to the two DUT terminals: center pin of triax and the +Volts. Insid...

Re: 6517B: COMMON / INPUT low connector

The 6517B has several different modes of operation and the usage of the triax connector changes according to the measure function. Figure 29 and 30 are describing the connections when the 6517B is operated in the guarded voltage measure function. In order to guard the signal that is on center pin of...

Re: Keithley 2450 - Custom sweep with different times

I image there are LV VIs to directly write the trigger blocks? Or worst case, you do a VISA write? The high level sweep functions are nice if the focus is on the I and V data and not time determinism in the source value vs. time. If you want the timing to be well controlled, I'd directly program the...

Re: Keithley 2450 - Custom sweep with different times

I put the SCPI cmds into python and ran with a 2461, firmware 1.7.3c I had to change the name of the source config list. Otherwise it accepts the commands. The ":SOUR:SWE:CURR:LIST 1" command creates a trigger blocks that execute thru the source list. Examining that, what you are getting makes sense...

Re: Keithley 2450 - Custom sweep with different times

On the 2450, use the buttons to turn on command logging in event log.
Then run your LV code.
Go to event log and save to usb.

This will let you see the actual commands and we can better see the state of the 2450 and how the trigger blocks are setup.

Re: Error while updating the RPM connection in KCON application in Keithley 4200 SCS

If working with your local office for support (recommended) is not feasible, here are a few comments. Sounds like the SMU in slot 1 has an issue and is no longer detected as present. I trust you have powered down and then back up? Did you recently move the system and give it any mechanical stress? I...

Re: Weird operation overlap error

Can you capture an IO Trace so we can see the commands the VIs are using?

If you could set a breakpoint before you set the output off, does the SMU ever complete? From the display, can you get an idea of how far in the sweep it is going?
