Re: Utility to read/write memory on Tektronix scopes

Wow! you did get a big bunch of bad chips. I had one dealer (way back) that actually sent me five used DS1650 chips that you could see the solder on the pins. He offered to give me my money back to remove the bad rating I gave him on greedbay, but I told him I would only do it if he would stop selli...

Re: Utility to read/write memory on Tektronix scopes

HGierke, Boy, have you been busy! Glad you could solve your problem. I've replaced at least 30 NVrams using chips from China. I have two dealers that I've had the best success with, but don't want to post them as TEK may take a dim view of this. I'll send you a PM with the names of the dealers and y...

Re: Utility to read/write memory on Tektronix scopes

HGierke, Just checking: 1. Did you start the scope with the write protect switch forward? 2. Did you run tektool in a win98 dos window? 3. Did you use the command like: tektool -w nvram.bin -b 0x4000000 -l 0x20000 to write to the DS1486? 4. Did tektool work fine when reading from the scope? I don't ...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, Well, that's not good. Check your trigger status with the trigger level leaving and then returning to within the waveform to make sure the same thing is happening that you reported earlier. if that is the same, then there must be something in the TI1 circuit that the scope finds unacceptable...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, I agree with your assessment. You probably have a bad trigger chip. This is a TEK chip and you probably could never find it in any - source. I have several of these from failed ACQ boards (540 and 640A) that I can send you, if you would like. This is one of the few TEK parts that's fairly ea...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, When the trigger is lost, does the signal at U1603p3 go to zero and stay there or does the rapid pulse (not the ramp) appear after a short time? What does it do when you change the filter with the trigger level off the trace? If the trace remains at zero, what's happening to the input signal...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, A second thing that it could be is trigger A itself (U1552). You could examine the outputs at pins 20 and 21 to see what the waveform looks like. I have had to replace a couple of these guys in the past. Check to see what happens with you cycle the HF reject on and off and see if the wavefor...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, I ran the test on my 544A. The initial setup was factory setting (trigger mode auto). Probe on CH1 was connected to the probe compensation just as you did it. The second scope was observing pin 3 of U1603, the final amplifier for TI1. When not triggered (and auto) the 1.4 us pulse from 0 to ...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric,
That really sounds like a TI1 problem. Let me duplicate what is causing your trigger problem and I'll send directions and what the results should be. Of course, you will need another scope to examine the signal at a couple of points to do the job.

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, Pins 2 and 28 of U501 and 502 seem to be in sync on my 544A. However, I noticed that during boot up, it looked like both pins2 of 501 and 502 were delayed relative to pins 28. However, they synced up after boot up. See the attached screen capture. Actually, when I only was measuring 502 the ...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, My voltages for pins 6 and 7 (ADLY and BDLY) on both U501 and U502 are -3.0 volts. The signal at pins 3 and 5 of U505 and U506 are both about -1.65 volts. If your voltage at pin 3 of U506 is in the neighborhood of -1.65, then you have a problem in U506. I assume that if this voltage is great...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, U501 and U502 have ACQCLK inputs that should be 250 mhz and very close in magnitude on pins 15 and 16. Pins 2, 3, 27 and 28 are outputs and should all be 250MHZ also. I'm not sure what ADCLK is. I did replace one of these when it had the proper inputs, but one of the outputs was zero. Did yo...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, The waveforms look correct to me. SMUT and SDUT come from U1001, the main ACQ controller (the guy with the pancake cooler on top). Real unlikely that he has a problem. I've changed these and it never helped. And it has lots of pins to desolder. I would still suspect an error in the TI circui...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedric, sorry about the "K" last time. :) attached are the waveform and voltage readings from the TI1 and TI2 circuits. They are pretty much the same. The "RAMP" (pin3 of U1603 and U1653) is discussed in the service manual (page 9-25) as varying from 6 to 20 Usec. This signal is complex. When you lo...

Re: TDS510A Acquisition Fail

Cedrick, The TI stands for Time Interpolator. It's part of the trigger circuit and has lots of SMCs around to leak and cause problems. I've spent so much time fixing things in this area that I made a full series of waveform readings on my schematic. Right now it's on a 13x19in sheet, but I can copy ...

Re: HELP TDS 524A / TDS 754D

Francisco, It's a little confusing, but the a1-a10 and b1-b10 refer to the slots or wires on the floppy type connector. The straight numbered connections are on the option 13 board. All you have to do is connect them. I did one where I separated the ribbon cables into individual wires, stripped the ...

Re: HELP TDS 524A / TDS 754D

Francisco, Look for 'console port for dummies' on this site. You will need an old floppy drive connector to attach to the cpu board. As far as the batteries, I've been using the ones from the far east for three or four years and none (that worked originally) have failed to my knowledge... As far as ...
