Keithley 2400

Post by sme89saulito » October 29th, 2016, 1:47 pm

Hello guys,
I have a Keithley 2400 unit and I need to do some resistors measurements.
I already was able to communicate via rs-232 with my computer using terminal emulator.
I would like to have a simple example of the commands to send to the instrument to set it to measure the resistors using only 2 wires, these resistors are already installed in a PCB with some other digital low voltage IC´s so I would like not to damage those other IC´s that is why I only want to activate resistor measurement.
My procedure will be to connect the 2 leads to the resistors and send the command and read the resistor value back to the terminal emulator, then move the leads to the other resistor and read and so on.
Thanks

From the 2011 Users Manual page 4-14 verbatim. Please have a look and read the description of each instruction.

*RST
FUNC “RES”
RES:MODE AUTO
RES:RANG 20E3
:SYST:RSEN ON
:FORM:ELEM RES
:OUTP ON
:READ?
:OUTP OFF

The above script uses 4-wire so you will want to change the sense mode

*RST
FUNC “RES”
RES:MODE AUTO
RES:RANG 20E3
:SYST:RSEN OFF
:FORM:ELEM RES
:OUTP ON
:READ?
:OUTP OFF

You may want to change the range for your particular application. If your resistance is below, say 100 ohms, you will want to use 4-wire which is also called remote sense. Offset compensation may be called for depending on what accuracy you require if you are measuring low ohms.
