We use a 2400 source-meter to do current-voltage sweeps (using the sweep function) on superconducting nanostructures. In order to limit ohmic heating in case the superconductor switches from the super- to the normal-conducting state we actually source voltage and sense current (as well as the voltage for higher accuracy). All measurements are controlled using Labview. Depending on the device the critical current that triggers the switching from super- to normal-conducting behavior is sometimes only a little bit larger (e.g. about 15 uA) than the next smaller current range. As a consequence, when an already "high" current is applied the source-meter changes to the higher current (sensing) range. Quite often, this induces some noise leading to a spontaneous and premature transition into the normal conducting state of the device.
I have tried many things to work with a fixed sensing range, but was unable to make it work. Can anybody give me some ideas on how to overcome this problem?

Also try syncing the compliance range with the measure range.
Here are commands to set 100uA measure range, 10V source range and sync up the compliance to the measure range.
