labview program on the 2420-C

Post by labviewboy » January 6th, 2011, 2:13 pm

Hi, I got one issue about the programming on the 2420-c. Here is the thing: I used labview 8.2 and 2400 series program and drivers (supplied by Keithely) to make a program for 2420 sourcemeter (bought in 2006) to perform V-I measuring. I also used the kusb488 GPIB to connect the computer and 2420. It runs great. Now, I bought a new 2420-C sourcemeter in 2010 and new kusb488b.Also, I installed the driver for Kusb488b. I tried to use the previous labview program(which is for 2420) to run the 2420-C. The device didn't response. Labview said it can't find this device.

I wanna know the potential reasons for this issue. Because my program is too old for this new 2420C?
The 2420C's gpib address is still 24,right?

BTW, I checked the keithely website. Most labview programs and drives are too old to run with labview 2010.
Is this for new driver:http://www.keithley.com/base_download?dassetid=55753

Thanks much!

You can verify the address of your 2400 models by doing this from the front panel:

MENU
COMMUNICATION
GPIB

If GPIB communication was not active the instrument will restart. If it was active then you'll see it's current setting which you can then change if you like. 24 is the default address.

It could be that your instrument is not responding because the GPIB interface is not currently selected. Performing the above steps may correct the problem. The other question I have for you is are you attempting to run the KUSB-488 and KUSB-488B on the same computer? This will not work. You can only have one GPIB adapter installed on a system at a time.

When you installed the KUSB-488B driver, did you select National or Keithley compatibility?
I use the KUSB-488B every day and I have it installed with National compatibility.
I also use Labview quite often and they work fine together.
When you install this driver it asks you which compatibility you want.

Hi, Dale C,

Thanks for responding!
As you said, I'm using the same computer and same program to run the new 2420c, can I?
For my old program, I have to use CEC 488 driver to run my computer. I'm nor sure I still need this CEC for my new 2420-c if I install the kusb-488b driver. Are they same things?
If I use the new updated NI driver from Keithley, I can directly use the NI driver to make a program without CEC 488?

Thanks!

You cannot have the CEC driver and KUSB-488B driver on the computer at the same time. If you want to install the KUSB-488B driver you must uninstall the CEC488 driver first. They are not the same thing.

Also, how can I find the GPIB card No. for the new 2420c?
I know the previous one is GPIB0.
There is CEC488 test program in the computer which can find the board in the computer. However, it said there is no board found.
