Do risk exist when forcing voltage internal IC?

Post by Jacky_80 » September 13th, 2011, 10:25 pm

Dear expert,

when we analysis the integrated circuit, we need to force voltage on the internal signal lines using Source Meter, for instance, force 5V and clamp 500uA current on the signal to trace the current consumption. (we used the 2430)
1. We wonder that if this method would have risk to damage the internal MOS.
2. Is there an instant high energy pulse when we power on the Source Meter.

Thanks!

Q1. We wonder that if this method would have risk to damage the internal MOS?
A1. Whether the method would have risk to damage the internal MOS doesn't depend on the testing instrument's spec, I suggest you check the IC's reference spec to make sure the source voltage and current won't exceed the max value level.

Q2. Is there an instant high energy pulse when we power on the Source Meter.
A2.No, there won't be any high energy pulse when power on the Source Meter.
