2602A USB problem

Post by Med_devel » January 15th, 2013, 4:06 am

I am using the brand-new SMU 2602A as a stand-alone device. Trying to save to USB stick results in error code 2203. 3 different USB devices show identical result. Recalling from USB shows "no files found". Does it need to be returned for servicing?

Hello,
What is the firm ware of your SMU? There could be in compatibility between your USB and the FW that the USB is not recognizable.
This could also be due to how the script was written to save the data to the USB.
This could also be due to erroneous port as you suggested. Try to debug the first two first before deeming the unit faulty.

Firmware version is 2.2.2. No script was used. Only the built in features accessible via the keyboard. Menu -> setup -> save -> USB1 setup000.set and ENTER results in Error 2203.

We have been able to identify 2 possible reasons: FAT16 (on an old 32MB USB stick) and hot-plugging the USB stick. In both cases it never works.
Using an 8GB device with FAT32, which had to be plugged in before power-on, we were successful.
Trying the same with a 32GB device led to unstable behaviour. Sometimes the SMU locked-up completely. Even removing the USB stick did not help. Only power-off.

We have now tested 11 different USB sticks. Only 2 work without problems including hot-plugging.
Verbatim 4GB Store n go Pinstripe
Delock Nano 2GB (nice because it does not block keys)

Hi Med_devel,

USB flash drive functionality has been greatly expanded in the latest B version of the 2600 series SMU product line. This is planned to be rolled back into the A version in the future.

An enhancement to greatly improve Series 2600A instrument compatibility with USB flash drives has now been released.
The new firmware version 2.2.4 for Series 2600A is available for download here:

This enhancement will support many USB flash drive models that the instrument could not previously recognize or access.
