2182A readings have many shots and large fluctuations
2182A readings have many shots and large fluctuations
I have 2182A input cable's 2 blades (black and red) shorted. With default settings (channel 1, slow rate, filter on), the readings I got were following, showing many shots and large fluctuations.
I don't know where these shots came from since the input is shorted with Keithley's cable. How can I eliminate these shots and reduce fluctuations?

Do you still have the DeoxIT solution that ships with the 2182A?
Try cleaning the contacts per the procedure on page 1-13 of the 2182A User's Manual.
Are you using a clean copper clamp to create the short between the red and black spade lugs on the 2107 input cable?

What is the " DeoxIT solution"? I don't understand. I will try the cleaning with a sand paper.
Yes I am using a clean clamp for shorting the red and black spade lugs.

The DeoxIT is a contact cleaning solution that is provided with the instrument when new. It is usually packaged with the copper alligator clips. The 4-pin copper contacts in the LEMO connector on the 2182A can also oxidize. This cleaning fluid can be used to remove the oxide.

I cleaned the clips, but still got the shots time by time.

I ran the 2182A with a short on the input cable for 10,000 readings with your settings.
The result is as follows...
This is what you should be seeing.
No spikes.
