Getting data in 6221/2182A system in LabVIEW

Post by joshicanchan » December 30th, 2015, 1:29 am

I am trying to perform an IV sweep at very low currents.
In 6221-2182A setup how to get data from nano-voltmeter in LabVIEW.
I am using following command sequence but not getting data.

:SOUR:SWE:ARM
:INIT:IMM
:SYST:COMM:SER:SEND ":TRACe:DATA?"
:SYST:COMM:SER:ENT?

Thanks

Hello,

Your sequence doesn't indicate how you have configured your system. You will need to configure your system so that the measurements of the 2182 are synchronized with the 6221 sweep steps. Issuing an INIT to the 6221 does not cause the 2182A to read data. Issuing a TRACe:DATA? only returns data that is already stored in the trace buffer. It does not initiate measurement operations. I've taken a little code from the 2182A manual showing a sequence to set up and perform a read on the 2182A. You will need to configure the triggering between the 6221 and 2182A so that the meter takes a reading and stores data. This is a bit more complicated than setting your code in LabVIEW to write to the 6221 to output a current at a fixed level, initiate a reading on the 2182A and stored data to the Trace buffer. After the sweep is complete (in LabVIEW), then perform the TRACe:DATA? query.

How can I configure the triggering between the 6221 and 2182A?
Any manual to do so?
How to check that my configuration is correct?

Both the 6221 and 2182A can be connected for triggering using the TLINK connection. A Keithley Model 8501 TLINK cable is the recommended cable however you can used any compatible cable that match the connection type.
From what I've seen in your code, I assume you are trying to initiate a source level, issue a trigger from the 6221 and perform a measurement on the 2182A.
Trigger line 2 of the 2182A is used for the trigger measurement input.
The 6221 LabVIEW driver (2009) has an example for configuring the 6221 triggering in the Execute Current Sweep. There are controls for setting input and output triggers. You may want to start with this example to review how the 6221 should be configured. The 2182A trigger source should be configured for TLINK.

I am using GPIB cable to for PC and 6221.
RS-232 Serial Cable and Trigger link Cable for 6221 to 2182A. Just like delta mode setup.
The utility program KI6220.exe works fine but my labview code not returning data after completion of sweep.
Trace Data command returns "!!" only.

Hi,

Will someone send command to read voltage from 2182a connected to 6221 using trigger link and serial cable.
I am able to set current using Ethernet communication through 6221 but with same communication not able to read voltmeter.
