Does GPIB cable form ground loop?

Post by BergEmilio » October 1st, 2013, 6:09 am

We know we must avoid connect more than one ground path in the whole measurement system.
So one should not connect any two chassis of instruments if all chassis of instruments are grounded.
But we find that the GPIB cable shield also connect the chassis ground of all instruments we need to remote.
Should we disconnect the ground of the power cord to avoid such kind of goround loop?

P.S. The attached - shows what ground loop I mean.

This does form a ground loops to be sure.
But where is the measurement being made. I would expect from HI to LO.
If that is the case then a ground loops from GPIB cables would not affect the measurement.
