Firmware Update Problems

Post by DynaTim » December 5th, 2013, 4:41 am

Hello,

I have a 2100 that needs a firmware update from V1.02 to V1.08. I have downloaded the appropriate compressed file with the following items:
- KI Model 2100 Firmware Revision Update Readme (June 2007).pdf
- DmmUpdate.exe
- 2100 Release notes rev1_08
- 1232_K01.bin
- 5407_K1.08.bin

I have installed on my PC:
visa540_full.exe
NIMax.exe
KI_TOOL.exe

My OS is Win7, and I have run the DmmUpdate application as administrator.

Upon following the directions outlined in KI Model 2100 Firmware Revision Update Readme (June 2007).pdf, between steps 5 and 6 (step 5 is when you are supposed to select which firmware to update, front end or processor - step 6 is after it has been updated) I get this indication:

"5407_K1.08.bin" firmware update failure! Please recycle power on
instrument now and Try again.

After instrument power is recycled, if you want to update another binary
file, please press the "Continue" button, otherwise press the "OK" button
to exit.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Not sure what your problem is.
See if you can upgrade to 1.05.
If not, I believe 1.06 is also posted -.
Then retry upgrade to 1.08.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I tried all 3 available versions (5, 6 and 8), and all three gave me the same indications (replace text with applicable firmware version):

"5407_K1.06.bin" firmware update failure! Please recycle power on
instrument now and Try again.

After instrument power is recycled, if you want to update another binary
file, please press the "Continue" button, otherwise press the "OK" button
to exit.

I did try updating the front end as well (after the other failures) and every version said the software I was trying to install was older than the currently installed version. I am guessing whats on there must be the same as what I am trying to install.

For the front end, I am trying to install:
1232_K01.bin
And my version is:
01-01
. I am guessing they are one and the same?

Hmm...try the flash program I have posted on our ftp site:
Go to the Keitley ftp site.
ftp:://ftp.keithley.com
user name = kicust
password = w3lc0m3
(This spells welcome but the vowels are integers).

Look for the folder "2100"
Then down load the zip file there and extract all.
Then use the nochk exe file I have supplied and flash the instrument with the 5407 file in that directory too.
Hope you get better results!

I am experiencing the exact same problem but I can't seem to access the ftp site to try the suggested solution. Is it still active?

Yes the site is still active, please try again.
And the zip file you need is in the 2100 folder...

Thanks, the problem turned out to be my firewall. But I still am having the same problem. I get a "5407_K1.08.bin" firmware update failure! Please recycle power on
instrument now and Try again. This is the same as the original flash updater. I tried several different USB cables and ports with no change. Please let me know if there is another option.

The *IDN? string is: USB0::0x05E6::0x2100::1194357::INSTR
The firmware revision is: 01.05-01-01

I have placed a newer version of the update program on our ftp site.
Look for the folder "2100"
Then download the zip file there and extract all.
Please download and let me know if this updates your 2100 correctly.

Stuart,
the link not work. I have download 1.08 firmware pack from Tektronix website but I found the same problem descript above. I mean that depends from the DmmUpdate_KI.exe ver. 1.05 dated 3/2/2011.

Please can you send me a working link for download the last DmmUpdate_KI.exe utility?

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.
