connection problem

Post by Jack22 » June 7th, 2012, 11:52 am

Hello

I'm having some trouble connecting a 2182A nanovoltmeter to a 6221 current source using the pc control system. The current source connection with the ethernet works fine, but the nanovoltmeter encounters a +800 error (Framing error detected). The RS-232 and the trigger link cable are connected as indicated and the RS-232 is on. I can't find what's the problem.

Thanks for your time,

Jade

Set up the Model 2182A for RS-232 with
19,2k BAUD
FLOW = NONE
TC TERM = CR

Use a NULL MODEM serial cable between the 2182A and 6221.
Use trigger link between them also.

that should do it.

One more question: how can I export the data aquired using KI6220 software?

In fact, I don't really understand how to use de KI6220 software.
The basic operation - AC source allows me to control the source in AC mode, but is there some way of acquiring at the same time the voltage? I'd also need to export this data in a more universal format than in .kdf. How can I do that?

Thanks again,

Jade

I had the same problem, and the solution worked for me as well.

Just wanted to say "thanks," but also ask why changing the BAUD setting fixes the problem, as it did in my case?

Hi... I am trying to interface my 6221/2182A instruments to PC using ki6220 software... I have made all the settings as mentioned in previous reply's. I ran Keithley diagnostic tool and both the boards are connected to PC. But still the software is showing error "the model 6221 & 2182A not connected.. when I check the option "take instrument control" it is showing error "the model 6220/6221 does not respond to the configured address. check connection to the instrument and try again" . Do i need to install any drivers to my pc. Please help me.

The Model 6220 demo software runs with VISA,
In order get VISA from Keithley you would need the Keithley I/O layer installed.
Here is the link.
http://www.keithley.com/support/data?asset=52766
Before you do this try this manually to see if the 6221 and 2182A are set up appropriately.
Model 2182A
Set to RS-232 ON, BAUD = 19.2K , FLOW = NONE, TX TERM =CR
Model 6221
Set to GPIB.

Connect trigger link between the two instruments.
Connect the NULL MODEM serial cable between the two instruments.
Press DELTA on the 6221, then press TRIG.
Does this work?
If so then try it with the 6220 demo software.
if it still cannot find the instruments then install the Keithley I/O layer and try again.

Hi Jack22/Dale

I am communicating 6221 and 2182 using lab-view. 6221 is connected to PC using Ethernet cable.
I am facing problem connecting a 2182A nano-voltmeter to a 6221 current source using the PC Ethernet control system. The current source connection with the Ethernet works fine, but the nano-voltmeter encounters a -113 error (Unidentified Header). The RS-232 and the trigger link cable are connected as indicated in manual i.e. 6221 and 2182 are connected with serial cable and trigger link cable also, and the RS-232 is on. I can't find what's the problem.
Following settings on Model 2182A are done
for RS-232 with
19,2k BAUD
FLOW = NONE
TC TERM = CR

I have tried 622X drivers from keithley for labview but able to communicate 6221 only. May be my sequence of operation is wrong. So anyone please send me a simple program.
Any example vi Or if any command through which I can read voltage from voltmeter is most helpful for me.

Thanks for your time.

Rupali
