Keithley communicator throws error

Post by Gregor » September 12th, 2019, 6:53 am

Hi, I am trying to drive the Keithley 6485 with the program Keithley communicator.
The - was succesfully added in Keithley Configuration Panel (I used a RS232 cable).
When I try to open the program Keithley communicator I get the next message:
"An error program occured when initializing
Invalid procedure call or argument....."
What can be the problem? What can I do?

Thanks!!

Are you saying the Keithley Communicator cannot successfully run?
Or does the software run, but is not successful to connect to the 6485 over RS-232?

See the problem here too on both windows 7 and windows 10 systems.
The latest windows updates corrected problems on all systems here.

Thanks! I was able to solve this problem.
I have correctly installed the programs "Keithley Configuration Panel" and "Keithley Communicator". In addition, the pc recognizes my Keithley 6485. Now we want to record the current at different times with the -. To do this, Do I need to install LabView and do a routine? or what program do I need?
I am sorry, I am a beginner in all of this :(

I don't see a LabVIEW driver for the model 6485.
So before writing your own code, I would first try KickStart 2 (comes with a 60-day trial) and connect your 6485 using GPIB.
KickStart support 6485 DC Current measurements and collects data and graphs the results.

Thanks! I'm going to try this program.
Can KickStart Instrument Control be used with the instrument connected by RS232 cable to the pc? or is it obligatory to use KickStart with the - connected by a GPIB cable?

KickStart currently supports GPIB, USB, LAN connections to a variety of instruments.
(see release notes for full list of instruments..)

The product page gives an oversight..
