Transfer of data from model 6482 buffer to PC

Post by milosbasovic » June 23rd, 2014, 8:33 am

Hello,

I have the model 6482 dual channel - source. I am trying to transfer the buffer data form the device to the PC.
To do that I have purchased KUSB-488B. I went through the manual, and so far all commands are working except the one for data transfer. I am using KI-488 diagnostic tool software.
I would be grateful if you can give me some directions on how to do this step by step since I am new to Keitley devices and current measuring in general ?

Best Regards

The Model 6482 stores data in the TRACE buffer.
Do you have data stored in the TRACE buffer?
If you do then the command
:TRACE:DATA?
will retrieve the data.
Send this command in the KI-488 diagnostic tool and then retrieve the data using the ENTER button.
Information on the TRACE subsystem is in the Model 6482 manual on page 16-14.

What values for addresses are needed to be set in order to transfer data from TRACE buffer to PC using KI-488 Diagnostic Tool and KUSB-488B?
There is the address on 1) 6482, 2) Keithley Configuration Utility, 3) Initialize GPIB (on Diagnostic Tool), and 4) Instrument Address (on Diagnostic Tool).
Which of these have to have same address in order to transfer data?
I already tried setting all of them on the same address and it did not work.
I have data in buffer which I can RECALL on the device itself.

1. The default address of the Model 6482 is 25.
2. The Board address is GPIB0. This is usually the default if you have just one GPIB interface.
3. When you use INTIALIZE it should it address 21.

That should do it.

I managed to get the data copied. Now there is another problem. I have set the 6482 to record 500 values. After the completed measurement when I use TRACE to copy the data to computer it only copies first 357 points. I repeated the command but its always the same. Can this be fixed? I can see the values of all 500 points on the 6482.

This is a limit of KI-488 diagnostic tool.
It is not designed for larger data transfers.
A programming language that can handle larger strings is needed.
Labview, MatLab, VB, etc.

Is there some Keithley software that can be used for that purpose? I am using KUSB-488B for data transfer.
If not can you tell me some good source which will help me create my own software (matlab or LabView)?

The only software Keithley has to offer for the 6482 is the VXIPnP driver.
Here is the link.
