Connect keithley 6221 with LabVIEW using a GPIB NI-488.2

Post by AlanH.WW » June 3rd, 2015, 2:47 pm

I would like some advice about whether it is possible connect the current source keithley 6221 with LabVIEW of NI and whether it exists a base code to control the equipement through LabVIEW with the PC.

I need to connect 4 equipements (Current Source 6221, Multimeter 2000 and 2 Electrometer 6517B) and control them with the PC through LabVIEW. I downloaded de NI Drivers but I need a base code to control the equipements, configure them, make a trigger with GPIB and extract the data.

I tried many forms to communicate with them but the PC does not find the dispositives, only the multimeter.

I would recommend to first test these instruments with a VISA session in NI-MAX.
Set each instrument to GPIB and note the primary address.
Then go into NI-MAX and open up a VISA session.
To do this go into TOOLS on the top tool bar and select NI-VISA.
Then select VISA Interactive control.
Verify that the four instruments are listed there.
Select each instrument one at a time and go into Input/Output.
In the Select or Enter field type in the *IDN? if it is not there already.
Then click on WRITE button, then the READ button.
Verify each unit sends back the identification information.
This will verify the units are all operational with the NI GPIB interface.
If they are then go ahead and write your VI with the drivers or just using SCPI commands.

I did a test but the instruments doesn't appear, all the instruments have the same adress (16) and cofigurated to GPIB and SCPI.

When I try to cominucate with the only one "instrument GPIB" that appears, with NI-MAX, the write operation doesn't funtion.

I send the screenshots

Really I need help.

Each instrument must be set to GPIB mode and has to have its own unique primary address.
Model 6221 default is 12
Model 2000 is default to 16
Model 6517B is default to 27, so choose the other 6517B to be address 28.
Then test them with the NI 488 interface and their own addresses and NI-MAX.

Thanks! Now all the instruments appear in the window and respond the write operation.

Only I have a question, how I start to write the programme in LabVIEW? Is there a base code to each instrument in LV or VB?
