6221 Randomly Rebooting

Post by Joshua S. » July 8th, 2015, 5:08 pm

I've been using a Keithley 6221 with a serial interface and external trigger to generate arbitrary current sweeps of around and for the most part have been satisfied with the results. However, recently the instrument has begun to power-cycle itself at seemingly random times. Usually the device will do this continuously--seeming to lose power then reboot, and then lose power again before the initializations are complete. It does not show me any error messages, just goes about its power-up sequence. I have checked the mains voltage (all normal) and tried a few other outlets, but the issue remains. It does this once or twice a day, and continues until I manually power-cycle it.

Any ideas or possible explanations? Thanks!

Sounds like the instrument needs servicing.
I'd contact the service department, their number is 503-627-2445.
