Error 809 K6221/K2182

Post by yassine » June 8th, 2017, 7:41 am

Hi Guys,
I wanted to set the delta mode with K6221 as current source and K2182 as nanovoltmeter. Thereby I followed exactly the operating instructions for the system configuration for stand-alone operation.

So I connected the K6221 by means of a trigger cable and an RS-232 cable to the K2182. Then I have configured the communications for the K2182 and the K6221. For the K2182 I selected the RS-232 interface (baud rate: 19,2K, flow control: none, TX: CR). The same I have also chosen with the K6221 (baud rate: 19,2K, flow control: none, TX: CR).
After I have set the current, I wanted to arm the delta mode. But I got only the error message: "error +809 NotAllowed with RS-232".

Then I tried it with another interface. I have connected the two devices with a GPIB cable, and conferted the communication configuration on GPIB. Here I get however only the error message: "error -241 Hardware Missing".

Could someone give me some tips or tell me where my mistake lies?
Thank you for any help!

The 809 error is "Not Allowed with RS-232." Basically, this is happening when trying to do a differential conductance, delta mode, or any other measurement requiring the use of the RS-232 port to talk with a 2182A. After you set up RS-232 on the 622X to 19.2k baud, CR Tx Term, and None for flow control, you must set the 622X back to GPIB or Ethernet communications before performing the differential conductance, delta mode, or pulse delta measurement otherwise you'll receive the +809 error.

Hey,

First of all thank you for your reply. I have followed your instructions. However, I get only another error message: "error -241 Hardware Missing".
Here are my steps summarized:
1.) I connected the K6221 by means of a trigger cable and an RS-232 cable to the K2182.
2.) For the K2182 I selected the RS-232 interface (baud rate: 19,2K, flow control: none, TX: CR)
3.) For the K6221I set the RS-232 interface (baud rate: 19,2K, flow control: none, TX: CR)
4.) After I set up RS-232 on the 6221, I set the 6221 back to GPIB communications
5.) After that I tried to arm Delta-Mode - without success

Where did I make my mistake?

Is the RS-232 cable a null modem type?
Pin2 should be connected to pin 3, not straight through.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your help. In fact, my mistake was that my RS-232 cable was a straight-through cable. Since the two cables look exactly the same, I do not notice that.
The Dalta mode now works perfectly.
