595 Quasistatic CV Meter plotting

Post by rg6g09 » November 8th, 2011, 1:40 am

Hi,

We have a 595 CV meter in the university which I am using to measure the capacitance of a MEMS device. According to the documentation, if I wish to make a CV plot, I should connect the IEEE-488 interface to a HPGL plotter. I was wondering if there was a more modern way to obtain a plot by interfacing to a PC rather than a plotter? I noticed that it is possible to purchase a IEEE-488 to USB adaptor, but is there some special software I would need to communicate with the 595?

Regards

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

Interfacing to an HP plotter was just one of the ways to make use of the GPIB interface on the 595.
There is a full command set defined for control of the instrument via the GPIB interface. The reference manual for the 595 contains some programming examples in section 4.10.

You are correct that you would need a computer that has a GPIB interface (USB to GPIB for example).

You would also need some software on that computer that can make use of the send and enter commands of the GPIB interface to send appropriate commands to the 595 to setup a measurement and to read back the measurement result. Typically the software would be a programming language such as Visual Basic or LabVIEW, etc.

Hi, Andrea, we are going to use a computer to conduct a c-v sweep measurement using 595 Quasistatic CV meter. May I know where I can download a LABVIEW driver for this measurement?

Sorry. There is no Labview driver for the Keithley Model 595.
