DPO7254 serial bus decoding

Post by Analogrf » June 10th, 2020, 5:18 am

I have got a used DPO7254 which works fine but I cannot do any serial bus decoding (triggering is ok)
I know the scope has the required option key installed but I cannot find any menus or application for serial (I2C,SPI,UART) decoding.

can anybody help?

thanks

You should find it under the Vertical menu:

Hi Allen
no, there is nothing in that menu.
I think you might be looking at higher version models (-C models). Mine is DPO7254 (no extra letter) based on windows XP

What version of firmware are you running? The latest that was available for that scope is v5.3.5, available here:

I had to check with one of my time-domain colleagues (I'm more of the RF guy), and he said:

DPO7000

Can trigger on I2C/SPI/RS232,CAN buses

Can decode NRZ data ( high speed serial such as PCI Express) with option "PTD"

Can decode CAN & LIN bus with option CAN

But I don’t think we ever did on-screen decode of I2C, etc. in the 7000 until Win7 platform as on-screen decode needed the extra horsepower of Win7 platform

thanks, Allen

is there any way I can upgrade my scope to be able to have win7?
I mean if I upgrade the motherboard and CPU (currently Pentium 4 3.4GHz) to better models, will I be able to install win7 and newer firmwares?

That would be awesome since I like some aspects of this scope very much over my Lecroy WavePro 7300A.
In the case of Lecroy I was able to easily upgrade the cpu and motherboard and the scope became so much more capable and quicker
It would be great if I can do the same with the DPO7254

Unfortunately, the changes to the DPO7000C platform (64 bit win 7) were too extensive to offer an upgrade kit. At the time that the 7000C was introduced, Tek offered a generous trade-in program to swap a 7000 for a 7000C + some $. Of course, that was about 9 years ago.
