How to enable one generator with a trigger from another?

Post by moose12 » April 26th, 2017, 1:18 am

Hello,

I've 2 Signal Generators (Tektronix AFG1022).

On generator A, I set up a 300 Hz, square wave.

Now, I'd like it to be turn on, NOT by me pressing Channel 1 On/Off button, but rather externally by another generator.

I've connected the Ext. Trig In port (the one on the back) of generator A, with an Out1 port of generator B (with a dual BNC cable).

I don't know how to configure generator B, so it will some how "ignite" my generator A and it's start sending out the square wave.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks.

First, make sure that generator A is set to burst mode and that the burst mode trigger is set to "External." The trigger input is TTL-compatible, which means that for our purposes, we should use a 5V square pulse to trigger. Set the channel 1 output of generator B to a 0-5V pulse with a pulse width of at least 100 ns. You also need to decide how to start the output of generator B. With this instrument, you could set generator B to burst mode, 1-cycle, and external trigger, then depress the multipurpose knob to send your trigger pulse.
