Post by Siva kumar » June 8th, 2017, 10:30 pm

Hi ,

I am having an Tektronix osciloscope TBS1102 , i tried to measure the signals in the SMPS using that and probe TPP0101(300V) ,At once i touched the ground terminal (which is Pin 2 of the IC in attached schematics ) MCB got tripped .Please guide me whether i am using the right probe or do i need to change the probe.

Thanks

If you are using the standard probes that came with the TBS1102, when you attach the probe ground lead to the IC pin 2, you are actually connecting pin 2 to earth ground. If your design is not tying pin 2 to earth ground, then you should consider using a HV differential probe. Such as the P5200A or P5205A.
