help:TDS7104 recover CD or image...

Post by rogerwu » January 10th, 2013, 8:37 am

Today my friend asks for help. There is a problem with his TDS7104.
The TDS7104 can't start up. It seems this win2K system is crash. and I put thet Hard Disk out, then install a new win2K system on the new disk. but it's done not work.
major error is: no TI PCI 1225 card driver. so the tek's software can't start.

Is there somebody who have the recover CD of TDS7104 scope? or somewhere to download the system image?

thanks much.

Roger

The OS restore disks for these instruments are motherboard specific, and contain the drivers needed to talk to the acquisition hardware. If you have installed a retail version of Windows, it will run as a PC, but cannot talk to the acquisition hardware.

For the TDS7000 series, in the past you could order a replacement programmed drive as PN 050350214 (due to licensing issues, we do not provide downloads for the OS). I show that as no longer being available however. This instrument will probably need to be sent in to service for repair to have the OS restored.

I think I found the original recovery CDs for TDS7104 but still it informs "not correct system" (BL440ZX.EXE checking). What it is actually checking? However, I'm able to override this by "F8" on startup and not running this BL440ZX.EXE on autoexec.bat. But, now when running PQER.EXE recovery from image file (IMAGE.PQI), the image file seems to be password protected! Anyone know the password?

Or anyone know how the BL440ZX is actually checking the hardware version? I have changed the broken HDD, so could it be that - just something simple like volume name, or..? Someone good at decompiling .exe files? ;)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/266 ... L440ZX.EXE

The CD is:
"TDS7000 Series Operating System Restor 063-3377-00"

The restore software does a hardware check to verify that the expected hardware is present, if not it will stop. I would try it again with the exact drive model type, not just size. I have done this several times and it has always worked. For certain your motherboard must be the correct type (BL440) and with the tek firmware. The exact hardware fingerprint that the restore software is looking for is probably considered "Tektronix Confidential".

You can swap hardware into your system after the restore is complete, though as far as the scope performance goes don't expect much as the windows side does not impact the scope end that much, and who would use these as a PC anymore. Of course, to do a future restore, this hardware would need to be removed again. So make a image of the working drive and use that for future restore/transfer that onto a larger drive etc.

These are the strings that are used:
char TEKTRONIX[] = "Tektronix";
char MORELICENSE[] = "more <license.txt";
char PQERPWDN[] = "PQER /PWD=N";
char IMGIMAGEPQI[] = "/IMG=IMAGE.PQI";
char CLS[] = "cls";
char INCORRECTSY[] = "Incorrect system! Press any key to reboot";
char KUEX[] = "KU440EX";
char KUEXMOTHERB[] = "KU440EX Motherboard Required! Press any key to reboot";
char BLZX[] = "BL440ZX";
char BLZXMOTHERB[] = "BL440ZX Motherboard Required! Press any key to reboot";
char REBOOT[] = "reboot";

After painful checks that I spare you it wants to execute this command:
PQER /PWD=N 16058 /IMG=IMAGE.PQI
This probably does something usefull, keep us informed please if something happened.

Dear Nikig,

I would also love to get the restore disc for a DPO TDS 7104 scope if possible, I tried to PM you but I just made this account and it will not let me access PM ability.
Thanks so much for your help!

Hi David

I keep getting a page with this response even if I am logged in or not. I am located in Australia. Does that make any difference ?

Hi David

Got a message from Tektronix saying that my login details were incomplete. So was able to download the file after I filled in the missing details and cleared the browser cache.
