2230 flaky vertical deflection and garbled display text

Post by dKyrie » June 30th, 2020, 8:40 pm

I have a 2230 scope that works OK except for garbled text on screen and signal trace dip on left edge of screen, both of which vary widely in severity when the PC board containing the RS-232 connector is jiggled.

I suspect a cold soldered joint, or more likely, a dirty connector.

Has anybody seen this problem, and where should I begin?

Cleaning all the connectors would be a daunting task, so I am hoping there is a knowledge base to narrow down the choices.

Thanks,
Dominic Kyrie
