Multisync LCD1830 and WFM 700 - Line 10&11 caption display

Post by Cpost » December 7th, 2011, 12:20 pm

Hello:

We recently encountered an odd visual display issue on both our Multisync LCD1830 and our WFM 700. Whenever either of these devices attempts to display captioning programmed to display on lines 10 and 11 (in order to avoid graphics along the bottom of the screen, for example) the captioning lines are separated and reversed on display.

For example, the caption:

I'm going to make
him an offer he can't refuse.

would display as:

him an offer he can't refuse.

I'm going to make

(if it was programmed to display on lines 10 & 11)

Note the spacing between the two lines in the above example. Also note that the first line of the captioning (which should be on vertical line 10) has actually been swapped with the second line of captioning (which should be on vertical line 11). If the captioning is on any other line combination it displays properly.

When this was first noted on one unit during QC, we actually thought there was a fault with the captioning. We checked it on another Tektronix scope (as mentioned above) and saw the same thing. However, after viewing the content on multiple monitors, it was displayed as originally created within the captioning file. We actually provide captioning services, in addition to other post-related services, so we created some test captioning files and were able to recreate the above error on both of the Tektronix devices while viewing the captioning properly on other monitors.

Is there perhaps a setting that we've missed within the scopes? Is there any way this has something to do with interlacing? Is there a firmware upgrade available to correct this? We utilize these scopes in our QC so it would be reassuring to see the captioning as intended.

Please advise and thank you in advance.
