Can I use OSCILLOSCOPE for DAQ from 6517B electrometer for current signals?

Post by Jagadeesh G » March 19th, 2018, 6:27 am

Dear Sir/Mam,

Greetings!

I am Jagadeesh from Mechanical Engineering IIT Madras, India. We have bought a Keithley 6517B electrometer and KUSB KI-488 for measuring Ultra low currents.

The only ISSUE we face is the SAMPLING RATE of the electrometer. Can the Oscilloscope be helpful in this case for increased (at least 300 samples per second) sampling rates from electrometer?

If not, kindly suggest any other methods to improve the sampling rate from the 6517b electrometer. Waiting for replies.

Thanks & Regards,

For use with the GPIB, have you adjusted the NPLC setting of the 6517B?

The instrument also has analog output which you could monitor with the scope. Take note of the response time of this signal.

Dear Mam,

Greetings and thanks for your reply.

I am using DAQ with GPIB only, But I don't know about the NPLC setting of 6517B. Can you explain why is it necessary and How it will be useful?

For DAQ with an oscilloscope, which terminal from electrometer to be connected to the oscilloscope input? Because I don't understand which cable I should buy and Use for this.

Kindly help me to fix this.

Thanks & Regards,

The NPLC is the number of power line cycles that the A/D converter uses for each measurement. It can be set for 0.01 to 10.
Chapter 5 in the 6517B Reference Manual has a section on the Analog Output.
