Master/Slave 3390

Post by titchell » June 22nd, 2016, 7:54 am

For an ATE application we need to run an identical pulse train from both units but be able to vary the delay of the slave pulse train relative to the master. The use of the term "phase" in the operators manual implies that this is possible but it is not entirely clear.

e.g. 2.5uS pulse @ 100kHz PRF with slave delayed by 1.5uS

Hello,
here comes a recipe which could come close to what you want:
1.) set your master 3390 to the desired output
2.) set your slave 3390 to the desired output pulse width but somewhat higher frequency (to be faster than the
master for triggering purposes)
3.) connect Sync output on your master 3390 to trigger input of the slave 3390 using an
external delay in between. [Could be a 'low pass connection' of a 1 kOhm resistor and a capacitor
decade box with nanoFarads adjustable].

Options:
[3a.) you could try to use square function on the slave 3390 and find a combination of frequency and
duty cycle settings for each delay needed. For this sync output and trigger input can be directly connected.]
[3.b) if you have access to a Tektronix dual channel AFG - go for it in this application.]

Thanks for that but needs to be under S/W control :|

Opted for another instrument TG5012A
