Connecting the rows on two matrix cards

Post by jmb-grip » April 19th, 2021, 8:44 am

I have the 3706A-S and two 3730 6x16 cards. I'd like to connect the rows on these two cards so that I effectively have one 6x32 card. Is there a way to do this with the analog backplane and tsp commands? Or will I have to physically connect my smu's to the row inputs for both cards?

Thanks!

If I'm understanding correctly, this can be achieved by closing each backplane relay in the two card slots. So if I have the 3730's in slot 1 and 2, I would short the rows together by:

Code: Select all

channel.close("1911, 1912, 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 2911, 2912, 2913, 2914, 2915, 2916")
(where each number is Slot# 9 Bank# Backplane-Relay#, where Bank#=1 for all relays because the 3730 doesn't have multiple banks)

Is this correct?

I think this could also be achieved with the `channel.setbackplane("channelList", "analogBackplaneList")` command, associating particular channels with particular relays:

Code: Select all

channel.setbackplane("1101:1116, 2101:2116", "1911, 2911")
channel.setbackplane("1201:1216, 2201:2216", "1912, 2912")
channel.setbackplane("1301:1316, 2301:2316", "1913, 2913")

I agree with what you have outlined.
To double check the outcomes you can have the 3706A-S give you a list of all closed relays for a slot:
print(channel.getclose("slot1"))
