Sampling rate

Post by Amith Kashyap » September 20th, 2018, 11:29 pm

Hello Sir,

We have “Keithley 3706A - Data acquisition multimeter” and we want to measure the resistance (range 0-1 ohms). Can we measure at a sampling rate of min 10 samples per sec per channel using 3706A?

It will depend on which switch card and the various settings of the DMM.
Look at datasheet for the switch card. It will have section on "Typical Scanning Speeds".
For model 3723 and 4wire ohms using 1KΩ range, it lists greater than 450 channels/second.
Note footnote 4 for the various DMM settings for this stated speed.

The 3723 has switch actuation time of less than 0.5 msec.
For assumed small values of R measured with 1Ω Range, you will probably want to use nplc of 1.0 (at least), offset compensation and line sync and auto zero. These features will improve accuracy at expense of time. But your goal of 100msec per channel (10Hz scan rate) is reasonable.

Re: Sampling rate and number of channels

Hello sir,

We want to measure resistance(2 wire) from multiple channels(say 120) at a time and at a sampling rate of 10 samples/second/channel using keithley 3706 (3723 plug in card). Is it possible? and do we need to buy any extra accessories for the above measurement?

Thanks in advance

Regards,

From the 3723 data sheet:

Hello sir,

We are using keithley 3706(3723 plug in card). So how many 2 wire and 4 wire channels a single 3723 plug in card supports?

Thank you

Best regards

Model 3723 is a dual 1x30 multiplexer card.
Dual = two banks
Each bank has 30 two pole "channels".

Each bank can give 30 channels for two wire connections to DUT. One 3723 card, two banks = 60 channels for 2 wire.

Four wire channels will half this number of available channels.

Hello sir,

what must be the NPLC setting in order to get the sampling rate of 1 sample/100 milliseconds(or 10 samples/second) for four wire resistance measurement?

Thank you
