Labview and KUSB-488B

Post by clarklacy » January 15th, 2016, 7:45 am

I am using a Keithley KUSB-488B to communicate to a 2182A, 2440-C, and a 7001. I am using the NI driver, and working in LabVIEW 2015. I am using the native NI GPIB VI's for my communication. As long as I run the KI-488 configuration utility before starting LabVIEW everything works fine.

So here is the rub, I want to do whatever it is that the configuration utility does. But inside LabVIEW. I will be using application builder to release the .exe, and I wont be the end user. So I don't want to depend on the user to run a configuration utility at startup.

I have considered adding the configuration utility to startup, but it also needs to be run whenever the USB cable is disconnected. I feel like I am missing something really simple.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,

If not already done, try adding a GPIB Initialization vi. The KUSB-488B address is 21.

Below is an image of simple LV program that initializes the KUSB-488B (addr 21) and then interacts with an instrument at address 26:

That did it! Thanks. I can't believe I missed that. One would think a VI named "initialize" would have been obvious!

Thanks

Hi everyone,
I have installed KUSB-488B converter successfully and it is detecting and communicating with keithley instruments (486 - and 2000 multimeter etc.). But It is not communicating with other instruments (7651 YOKOGAWA) where it is detecting all of them.

What could be possible reasons? My question is whether I can connect any instrument using KUSB-488B converter or not?
I am using windows xp and labVIEW 2014, visa read/write.

please help me.

Thanks,

The KUSB-488B is a USB to GPIB adapter.
It will work with any GPIB device not just Keithley. This includes the 7651 Yokogawa.
Are you sure of the primary address on the 7651?
Is the 7651 set for GPIB?
Is there any other device on the bus with the same primary address?
