driver problem? (6221 and 2182A )

Post by Jose_Colino » February 9th, 2015, 10:53 am

Hi,
I am trying to control my Keithley instruments 6221 and 2182A without much success. The laptop computer runs on Windows XP and is connected directly to the Current Source 6221 with an ETHERNET cable. Nanovoltmeter 2182A is connected to 6221 with both RS232 and TriggerLink cables, and configured to use RS232. Following the manuals, the communication addresses were set as follows:
Computer IP.- 192.168.001.002 (Subnet 255.255.255.001 and Gateway 192.168.001.001)
Source 6221 IP address.- 192.168.001.003 (Subnet 255.255.255.001 and Gateway 192.168.001.001, DHCP off)

If I install the VISA 3.0.1 and the program KI6220.exe from the installation disk that was delivered with the instruments, I can work well, measure in delta mode, sweeps etc.
If I install the KIL-850C06 layer downloaded from your web site (includes VISA 5.2), the Keithley Configuration Panel is unable to locate the 6221 as ethernet device. On the other hand, after installing the Labview 8 software the program KI6220.exe stops working properly; it doesn´t read the voltmeter. (Labview 8 includes VISA 3.4 and the installation disables the previous VISA 3.0.1). Your support web provides the project style “Keithley 622X LV 8” which I downloaded and installed in the \instr.lib directory, however the routines doesn´t seem to communicate well with my instruments.

Do you know why KIOL-850 cannot run here? Can you provide suitable drivers for my configuration?

P.S.- I basically need to measure low resistance in delta mode, also measure another DUT´s voltage with channel 2. Finally, I have used a second laptop on Windows 7 but I never got the KI6220.exe working on this OS. Any suggestions to fix it?
Any help will be great!

The demo software KI6220.exe does not reliably work with an Ethernet connection. This is known and a problem report has been issued.
But I am not sure when or if it will be fixed.
I would recommend using GPIB with the demo program. This works and I have seen no troubles.
If you do not need to use the demo program then you could use another program language like Labview and use the attached crude Labview 2012 VI.

Dale,
Thanks for your reply that helped me on. Although the attachment does not load in LV8 and I cannot use GPIB, Ethernet connection is now working properly with my 2182A+6221. Delta Mode measurement of paper clip FROM THE 6221 instrument is successful. FROM THE COMPUTER a few example VIs run satisfactorily – Current sweep, Set dc current, Wave gen - in my Labview 8 after running Initialize.vi. These routines were downloaded from Keithley site (project style “Keithley 622X LV8”).

Unfortunately I am not able to measure with DELTA MEAS EXAMPLE.vi. I get the error message: “Labview: scan failed”, Error Code 85, “Scan from string (arg 1) in Error Query.vi> … 2182A A Write.vi> … “. Then the communication jams and I should restart the instruments. It seems a software problem related to 2182A communicating with 6221, since manual delta measurement is okay. 2182A instrument settings are: baud 19k, Flow none, Terminator CR.

Can you advice on this?
Regards

Jose C.

P.S.- Besides, I would like to make delta measurements followed by reading voltage on channel 2. Do you have any example Vis for reading channel 2 on 2182A?

HI,

I'm new to Labview and am having trouble connecting to the 6221/2182A setup. I am using ethernet and am running Labview 2012. I have tried opening the .vi files from KI6220.exe and receive the following error...

"LabVIEW load error code 11: VI version (7.0) cannot be converted to the current LabVIEW version (12.0f3) because it has no block diagram."

I've tried reading up on the problem and it seems the only solution is to obtain the block diagram from the creator of the file. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure why this is an issue.
Try the simple VI I have attached to this post.
It controls the 6221/2182A through Ethernet.
I used TCPI::134.63.74.182::1394::SOCKET
Now your IP address will be different but I am sure you get the idea.
Try it.
