My test system requires many cross-connect test points
and I find that the 3732 matrix card in the 3706A
may meet my need.
I plan to use it in 4x112 configuration.
Besides test points, I'll need voltage source to
source different parts of the circuit at different time.
I will use a 2602B as a voltage source.
The attached - shows the simplified circuit
for the purpose of the discussion.
In one of the test, shown in this example, I
need to measure the R2 resistor and provide
a power source to the port P3, simulatenously.
1) Will the software let me connect the voltage source
to P3 location, as shown in the matrix drawing?
And to program it, is it correct to say that
I will call channel.createspecifier(slot, bank, row, column)
twice. One to connect P3 to row3 and the other one
to connect power source to row3.
2) The TSP supports channel.setbackplane command.
How do I set the analog backplane so it knows to
measure R2 resistor between P2 to ground?
3) If R2 has a small value, say 10 ohm. I will use 4-wire
ohm measurement. Do I need to specify any thing else
when I set the backplane?

I've been doing a lot of reading after posting the
above questions. Keithley has a very good document, but because
the size of the document, I want to reach out to the group for questions
that I could not find answer to (or missed) by reading .
Refering to my question 1): will the software (or hardware) let me
use the crosspoint on the 3732 to simply feed the powersource to the
pin in the other column, as shown in the attached drawing. (please pull down the side bar to
look at the entire drawing).
I read the "LLCR PinSocketTesting 3732 Matrix Card.pdf" which
shows (Figure 6-9) that the setup feeds the SMU to the analog backplane. Each pin has two wires connected
to two different columns, so one can connect to analog backplane to get the power.
For my setup, I'd like to feed the power through the column node instead. Is there any benefit to
wiring the SMU to the backplane vs a column pin on the matric?
Could you please help confirm my setup? I think 3732 has
what we need and we would like to proceed to the purchasing
of the card if all is good.

Any row can be connected to any column within the card.
The backplane relays connect the individual rows from one card to another in the 3706A mainframe.
Normally the devices are connected to the columns and the meters, sources and so on are connected to the rows.
If you want to switch any point to any point then the matrix is the way to go.
Most of the other cards for the 3706A are multiplexers. This means one instrument to many devices.
But with the matrix you can go from any row to any column.
I have the same situation.
I will be using the 3732 with
the 4x112 configuration.
Does anyone have a sketch
of how they would hook up
the 3732 with the 2450 SMU
using the 3706A main frame?
